Scott had an awesome meet today, came in 27 out of 72. Time to be posted Wednesday hopefully. His first race using the vibram 5 finger shoes. H said they were great, but had some soreness after the race. May be using muscles he did not when wearing shoes. I may have to try a pair, they are certainly getting a lot of hype. Here is a bad video from my ancient cell phone of the start of the race:
Just back from a trip and took a run about Pineland, just 3 miles. Got lost briefly but it was a nice day for a run. saw no one on the trails.
Caught this fellow on my trip--

Ran some trails with the pacer lab who lagged behind until free from the leash, and then ZOOM. Lots of stops for smells and streams, mostly for the lab. With all this rain we had to turn back at one stream crossing with the water too high. Logged in 2 miles. Scott remained inside to do homework and computer thingys.

Awesomeness extremish
Wow, Scott hit the treadmill today-- Treadmills were historically used as a method of reforming offenders in prison, an innovation introduced by Sir William Cubitt in 1817.; these were also termed treadwheels. Click here: More history! This was really the first time looking to do a serious run. His goal was a 5k and he went just shy of 3.5 miles. Looked amazing with his relaxed strides and determined attitude. It was fun to watch him go. I have to remind myself that he is not a little boy anymore and is capable of really cranking some nice runs.
I am one proud dad!
I did an easy 2 miles next to him with a few inclines, then we tossed a few hoops.

Road work
New sneakers meant a 1.5 mile slog on pavement. That was definitely tougher on the knees, not much give on the asphalt. I like the sneaks, asics.
I've been reading a lot about David Goggins. An interesting man, complicated in many ways. Definitely a relentless athlete and human being.
Meet day tomorrow for Scott if the rain holds off, hopefully he will have some fun and get a good race in.
Pineland 5k in 11 days? Wow, I need to go ice my knees...

Ran the most of the race course yesterday, Scott had some great times 10:06 and 7:38,
I had a nice spill after Jenny the pace dog decided to run between my legs. Nothing like a little gravel rash.
I ran 2 miles at Bradbury today, brutal uphills but gorgeous views at the summit. beautiful day to run.

Todays training
Went for a quick 2 miler on the local trail with the puppy. Scott is nursing a sore calf and is resting up for a meet tomorrow.
Felt good plodding along in the rain, jumping roots and listening to the sounds along the trail.
Legs are still sore from Sunday's race, but not too bad.
Need to up my training for the Tough Mtn Challenge in July, as I am definitely nervous for that race.
Planning another two miler tomorrow at some point...

Rest day
It is a rest day after the first 5k we completed as a team! I am one proud dad to be able to run with my son. It was a super day, perfect weather and lots of friendly people. The Sea Dogs put on a great event.
Working on our training schedule for the rest of the summer, I think we can really hammer down our time for the upcoming Father's Day race. I am looking forward to some recovery trail running this week.

Our blog.
Hello!
My name is Scott Gilley and I am 11 years old. My dad, Tom, and I are runners. We love trail running and road races alike. I am the more tech-savvy one of us, and I will be hosting some of the blog. We did our first 5k of the year, the Sea Dogs Mother's Day race and it felt great. I am also currently into Parkour/Freerunning, and other things.
I hope you enjoy our blog! It is very bland and under construction right now, so don't worry if it looks horrible, it (hopefully) won't soon! :)
